CNS Facilities

Within AT-One the following facilities are available in the area of Communication and Navigation Systems (CNS).

A-SMGCS Demonstration Environment
This consists of a network of computers and monitors for the data acquisition of sensor systems installed, data matching, data processing, and the possibility of presentations of the single sensor and total system characteristic. The core is an intelligent data fusion system for linking all sensor data. A large variety of sensor types can be integrated. The data fusion provides an integrated multi sensor system for continuous automatic determination of the traffic situation at the airport. This means tracking and identification of all objects within the approach area, runways, taxiways and aprons as well as high level description of the operational state of the objects and conflict assessment.

A-SMGCS Test Environment
At the airport of Braunschweig an infrastructure is installed for testing Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A SMGCS). It is an open system so that a large variety of sensor types can be integrated. For linking the sensor data there is an intelligent data fusion system that combines and significantly enhances the sensor data information.

A-SMGCS  Test Platform Airport Hamburg
The A-SMGCS test platform Airport Hamburg is available for the evaluation of future A-SMGCS developments. The Test platform will be used for validating innovative functions in the context of research projects in a real operational environment.

DAL
The Experimental ATM Datalink is used to transfer experimental data between ground facilities and the aircraft. There are two ground systems available: on fixed system mounted on top of the Braunschweig airport control tower and one mobile placed in a 40 ft container.

TRADEF
TRADEF is a platform consisting of hardware and software to accommodates the development, testing and validation of tracker software. Typical parts of the TRADEF facility are:

  • data inspection/manipulation tools (asterix, madrec)
  • simulation environment for generation of realistic traffic
  • testbed for running tracker software
  • evaluation environment for tracker output
